Biodegradable plastics are plastic products that can be decomposed into reusable substances by microorganisms in the natural environment. Compared with traditional plastics, biodegradable plastics are mainly made of natural polymer materials such as plant starch and microbial synthesized polyhydroxy fatty acids. These natural materials can quickly decompose into harmless substances such as carbon dioxide, water, and biomass under appropriate environmental conditions, such as humidity and temperature, and ultimately enter the ecological cycle system.
Biodegradable bags are made from biobased materials that are partially or entirely sourced from renewable resources such as corn starch, calcium carbonate, sugarcane, and cellulose. Compared with traditional petroleum based plastics, the degradation process of bioplastic bags in the environment is more environmentally friendly because they can be decomposed into carbon dioxide and water by environmental microorganisms under certain environmental conditions, thereby reducing their long-term impact on the environment. 2. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA): PHA is a type of polyester substance synthesized by microorganisms and obtained through large-scale cultivation, extraction, and purification by microorganisms. PHA plastics have good biodegradability and plasticity, and can rapidly degrade in soil and water.
Biodegradable plastics have broad application potential in various fields.
1. Food packaging: Biodegradable plastics can be used for food packaging to avoid potential threats to food safety and health from traditional plastic packaging. Some biodegradable plastics can also extend the shelf life of food.
2. In the field of agriculture: Biodegradable plastics can be used for agricultural cover films, solid fertilizer packaging bags, etc., reducing pollution to farmland soil and promoting soil fertility improvement.
3. Medical devices: Biodegradable plastics can be used to manufacture disposable medical supplies, such as surgical gloves, gowns, etc., to better protect the health and safety of patients.
