Environmental protection and plastic ban, everyone's responsibility.
Environmental protection and plastic ban is not only a collective action, but also a responsibility that everyone should fulfill. We should all start from ourselves, actively participate in the action of environmental protection and plastic ban, and contribute to the green future of our planet together.
The global annual production of new plastics is astonishing, reaching about 3.8 billion tons, which is enough to cover an entire city, fill hundreds of large containers, or line up into a train stretching thousands of kilometers. This huge number not only highlights the widespread use of plastics in modern society, but also reveals the environmental pressures brought about by their rapid growth. The lightweight, durable, and multifunctional properties of plastic make it an ideal choice for many products, but large-scale production and use have also led to a series of serious environmental problems, such as resource depletion and loss of biodiversity.
Meanwhile, the weight of plastic particles inadvertently ingested by humans each week is staggering, reaching up to five grams, equivalent to the weight of a credit card. These microplastic particles may enter our bodies through food, water, and air, with a wide range of sources including the decomposition of plastic products, synthetic fibers in washing machines, and wear on car tire layers. Once these particles enter the food chain, they may be ingested by humans, posing potential threats to the human hormone system, immune system, and nervous system, as well as affecting digestive health and nutrient absorption.
Faced with this series of challenges, solving the plastic problem requires joint efforts from all parties around the world. By changing consumer behavior, government policy support, industrial innovation, and raising public environmental awareness, we can jointly promote the development of sustainable alternatives to plastic, achieve the goal of circular economy, and reduce human intake of plastic particles.
Nearly 80% of plastic waste is facing the dilemma of being unable to be processed.
These wastes are ultimately piled up in landfills or natural environments, causing a heavy burden and serious pollution to the ecological environment. In landfills, plastic waste takes hundreds or even thousands of years to gradually degrade. However, during the degradation process, toxic chemicals and tiny plastic particles are released, which further pollute the soil, groundwater, and surrounding ecosystems. At the same time, many regions lack complete garbage treatment facilities, leading to waste being driven by wind and water currents and spreading to a wider area, seriously threatening biodiversity and ecological balance, and posing potential risks to human health.
Every year, approximately 51 million tons of plastic are discharged into the natural environment, a weight equivalent to the eight Great Pyramids of Giza. These plastic wastes originate from multiple fields, such as daily necessities, packaging materials, industrial manufacturing, and agriculture. This large-scale plastic leakage has brought a heavy burden to the ecosystem. These discarded plastics entering land and oceans not only pollute the land and water, but also cause serious damage to wildlife and even threaten their survival. Marine organisms accumulate in their bodies due to ingesting plastic, ultimately leading to suffocation. Therefore, it is particularly important and urgent for the world to work together to reduce plastic use and properly dispose of waste plastics.
Building a Green Future Together, Preventing and Controlling Plastic Pollution is Urgent.
In the context of increasingly severe global plastic pollution, we call on all parties to work together and take practical actions to promote the process of plastic pollution prevention and control. By exploring green alternative materials, improving energy efficiency, promoting circular economy and plastic recycling, and advocating for reducing excessive packaging and the use of disposable plastic products, we are expected to jointly build a sustainable future.
Following a historic resolution jointly created by 175 UN member states worldwide, we are committed to completely eliminating plastic pollution by the end of 2024 and moving towards an internationally legally binding agreement. To achieve this grand goal, we must undergo a profound transformation in the production, consumption, and processing of plastics. This covers eradicating plastic pollution from the source, actively promoting sustainable plastic alternatives, improving existing waste management systems, and integrating plastics into the circular economy system.
Let us work together to tackle the environmental challenges brought by plastic and protect the planet we rely on for survival. Let's act quickly, 'shape the battle quickly', and together create a clean and sustainable future.
